Gas crisis hits city dwellers

Home makers in a vast part of the captial Dhaka are crying due to failing in making iftary and cooking daily meals for acute gas crisis for long.
“The government is collecting Tk 1080 every month for two burner ovens but ignoring our rights of getting gas,” said Samina Afrin, a home maker in D I T plot, in Gandaria in the capital on Thursday.
“We are crying everyday while trying to cook daily meals for our kids as there is not even a very little bit gas in our burners. We have become empty pocket for buying iftary items since the first day of the holy Ramadan failing in preparing items for breaking fast due to the gas crisis,” Samina said.
She said her friends and relatives in the vast areas of the Gandaria in Tekergoli, Satish sarker road and D I T plot areas are in acute suffering due to the gas crisis.
It is not only in this area, but also a number of areas in the capital city are suffering from acute gas crisis.
According to information from city dwellers, gas crisis made sufferer most of them acutely in Luxmibazar, Patlakhan road, Gopibagh, Maniknogor and adjacent areas, Jatrabari, Dholaikhal, areas, Azimpur, Khilgaon, Basabo, Malibagh, Dakkhin Banosree and adjacent areas.
“The gas could not found in our burners after the early morning. We have to cook our daily meals including day time foods for children and night and midnight meals at deep night,” said Shahina Khanom, another home maker in Laxmibazar area.
She said gas only started coming after night 12:00am and stay till the early morning.
“We never found the gas in our burners in day time for long. We could not remember that we found day time gas before the last winter,” said Bilkis Banu in the same area.
Jasimuddin Ahsan of Dakkhin Banosree said the gas crisis acute in the ‘K’ block and adjacent areas.
“We are in untold suffering due to the acute gas crisis. Home makers in the area are on crying every day since the beginning of the Ramzan for the problem. They failed to prepare iftary items,” said Jasim.
City dwellers from different areas asked the authorities concern not to ignore their right of getting gas in their burners as they pay the government fixed charge for their burners regularly.
Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited Md Harunur Rashid Mollah could not be reached for getting his comment in this regard while trying several times to contact over telephone.
