Communal harmony in Baharpur Ashrayan Project of Ishwardi

Mosques and temples built in Baharpur Ashrayan Project in Ishwardi have forged a bond of communal harmony among the landless. Hindus and Muslims are practicing their respective religions in a harmonious environment. There is no bigotry or extreme communalism among these low-income people. A unique example of sharing joys and sorrows along with standing by each other in times of danger has been established. Along with the renovation of the previous mosque, the temple was built for the Hindu community. Although there was an allocation for the construction of houses in the project, there was no allocation of money for the renovation of the mosque and the construction of the temple. Ishwardi upazila administration has made efforts to renovate the mosque and build a temple.
It can be seen on the ground that a total of 316 landless families are living in the Baharpur shelter project of Muladuli Union along the Ishwardi-Pabna road. Hindu community has 25 families. It is known that a total of two thousand people live. Earlier there were 96 houses.
This year, 196 houses have been allocated under the Prime Minister’s priority-based shelter project for the homeless and landless, but 220 houses have been constructed with the efforts of the upazila administration.
These houses are allocated between Muslim and Hindu communities. As the temple was constructed along with the renovation of the old mosque, the people of the Hindu community are able to perform regular worship here.
Bablu Chowdhury (58) said, now there is no need to go to the temple in Ishwardi town or Dashuria, 7-8 miles away for worship. I am happy and peaceful because Hasina government made UNO a temple.
Chameli Rani (55) said, worshiping the temple brings peace. Light the evening light regularly. However, the temple needs solar power lighting along with a refectory, grill, bathroom, water system. Dilip Das said, UNO Sahib built the temple. I am Hindu-Muslim together.
Farooq Hossain, president of Bhumiheen project, said, “Like relatives, we are living by sharing each other’s happiness and sorrows. We all enjoy our Eid, Shabbat, Milade and Hindur pujas. UNO came twice a week and inquired. Any problem is solved immediately.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer PM Imrul Kayes said that people of different communities live in Ishwardi. Here I have allotted the real land of the Hindu community and houses for the homeless. There was already a mosque of the Muslim community, along with its renovation, we built the temple thinking about the religious freedom of the Hindu community. The temple construction was not even half of the money allocated for the TR project.
The temple was constructed using bricks, cement, tin and sand left over from the Ashrayan project. He said that the incomplete work of the temple will be done step by step. Regarding the problems of people living in old tin houses, he said, other problems have been estimated and sent to the Prime Minister’s office for renovation and solution.
