Ireland recorded a consolation seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in their third Twenty20 International (T20I) match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Bangladesh clinched the three-match T20I series 2-1.
The Tigers posted an easy 22-run victory over the tourists in the first T20I at the same venue on March 27.
The hosts registered a massive 77-run victory over the visitors in the second T20I at the same venue on March 29.
Chasing Bangladesh’s meager total of 124 in 19.2 overs, Ireland reached the winning target making 126 for the loss of three wickets when they had 36 balls to spare.
Ireland had a poor start as they lost two wickets for 41 runs.
Opener Paul Starling and second-down Harry Tector mended the innings contributing together 68 runs in the third wicket stand before Starling was caught at the long-on by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Rishad Hossain when Ireland’s score was 109 for the loss of three wickets.
It is debutante Rishad Hossain’s maiden wicket.
Paul Starling hit a marvelous 77. His 41-ball innings had four sixes and 10 fours. Starling was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings.
After Starling’s dismissal, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector guided their team to anchor the winning spot.
Campher remained unbeaten with 16 runs, while Tector remained unbeaten with 14 runs.
Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each conceding 19, 25 and 28 runs respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh lost their seven wickets for 61 runs.
Fourth-down Shamim Hossain and seventh-down Nasum Ahmed built the only notable partnership for the hosts. They put on together 33 runs in the eight-wicket stand before Nasum Ahmed (13) was caught at the extra cover by Paul Starling off Gareth Delany when Bangladesh’s score was 94 for the loss of eight wickets.
Shamim Hossain restored some parity for his country. He hit a superb 51. His 42-ball innings was studded with five fours and two sixes. It is Shamim Hossain’s maiden half-century in T20I cricket.
Mark Adair captured three wickets in the space of 25 runs, while Mathew Humphreys bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 10 runs.
Gareth Delany, Fionn Hand, Ben White, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector picked up one wicket each for seven, 15, 15, 23 and 28 runs respectively.
Pacer Taskin Ahmed of Bangladesh was adjudged the Player of the Series.
