“Huge number of people as well 25 percent of the population of Bangladesh are now suffering from the Thyroid disease which created multiple complications among the patients,” Assistant Professor Dr. Shahjada Selim, Endocrinology department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University said in a programme on Saturday.
The expert came up with the shocking information in a free Thyroid screening programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at Segunbagicha in the capital.
He said several crores of the victims don’t even know what they are suffering from and most of them live in the countryside. As per the experts views, Bangladesh is a region that lacks iron
(Fe) and has only 150 endocrinologists. The outbreak of fatal diseases like Thyroid problem is originated from the iron shortage.

They asked all to be alert about the disease as it is a major barriers on children’s intellectual development.
The free screening of the disease would be held at the same venue in May 25, the organisers and experts said.
