BADC Potato Farm to exceed target in Domar

The government has established BADC base seed Potato Production Farm in Domar Upazial in Nilphamari is likely to exceed target in base seed potato production this season.
The farm was began in Sonarai union of Domar upazila of Nilphamari in 1957 by occupying the command.
 After its establishment, the farm began to operate under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture. The farm is currently situated within 514.48 acres of land. BADC base seed potato production farm of Domar, Nilphamari is likely to exceed target in base seed potato production this season.
It can be seen that during the current season, Domar upazila’s specialized base seed potato production farm has cultivated various varieties of seed potatoes. Yields have also been bumper. If the production target is 2 thousand 152 metric tons, it is also likely to spread. Among these five imported high yielding exportable and industrially usable potato varieties Alouette, Sunshine, Queen Annie, Labella, as mini tuber, breeder or (pre-foundation) and foundation seeds have been cultivated in that farm on about 101.79 acres of land. Yields have also been bumper.
Also, five lakh plantlets have been produced from two tissue culture labs after Abu Taleb Miah joined as Deputy Director at Doma Base Seed Potato Production Farm. 11 lakh 50 thousand seedlings have been produced in the current season. This is more than double than before. Mini Tubes produced a maximum of 29 MT. In this season it is likely to be around 70 metric tons and more. It is to be noted that farmers lost confidence due to poor seed quality in Doma’s foundation seed potato production farm.
In this regard, farmer Salim Hossain of Kumdanga area of Sonarai Union Abdul Jalil and Golam Rahman of Shaldanga village and many others said that since Abu Taleb Mia joined the post of deputy director, this farm has produced a large amount of all crops including seed potatoes, ausdhan and wheat. Since his arrival, the reputation of the farm has been growing.
