BNP demands resignation of Bridges Minister

BNP on Tuesday demanded the resignation of the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader over the huge fatalities caused by road accidents across the country in recent times.
The party made the demand following its meeting of standing committee members held on Monday.
BNP’s standing committee expressed their deep shock and sorrow over the deaths of 21 people in the fatal road crash in Madaripur on Sunday. They prayed for the salvation of the departed souls and conveyed their deepest sympathies to the bereaved families from the meeting.
BNP blamed the Roads and Highways Department for the accident in a statement on Tuesday and said, Road Transport and Bridges Minister should resign immediately taking all responsibility for this tragic road crash.
The meeting also protested police and pro-government lawyers’ attack on pro-BNP lawyers at Supreme Court during Supreme Court Bar Association Polls.
The BNP highest policy making body said, “Behavior of the ruling party in Supreme Court Bar Association polls has proved that no election can be fair and free under this illegal Awami League government”.
The meeting also condemned the arrest and remand order of 51 leaders of the party, who were arrested from city’s Banani Club on Sunday night.
It demanded immediate and unconditional release of the arrested leaders.
The meeting was presided over by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarqiue Rahman where standing committee members Dr. Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Zamir Uddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku were present.
