Forest land of 1,189 acres recovered in Gazipur

The area of Shalban in Gazipur is situated on more than 52 thousand acres of forest land . The Shalban is famous in the country as Ghazari forest.
The forest area of Gazipur, an industrial area adjacent to Dhaka, is prone to encroachment. The forest workers are struggling to protect the forests of the district due to the continuous industrialization and increase in population density. On the other hand, Shalban is a victim of global climate change, air, river and canal pollution. However, overcoming these multi-faceted obstacles and crises, 1 thousand 189 acres of forest land in Gazipur has been saved from encroachment in the fiscal year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. Chandra, Rajendrapur, Sreepur and Kachighata ranges or regions in Gazipur under Dhaka Forest Division. On the other hand, Bhawal and National Park range are under Dhaka Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department.
Sources of Information from the Forest Department said that the Bhawal Range is under the Dhaka Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department. In different bits of the range, 17.29 acres of forest land has been saved and afforested from encroachment by various individuals and organizations during the financial year 2020-2021. In the financial year 2021-2022, 37.05 acres of forest land has been recovered and afforested. Beneficiaries are assigned to plantations created under the rules of social forestry. It has increased the number of beneficiaries. A total of 12.35 acres of forest land including 7.41 and 4.94 acres have been recovered and afforested in those two financial years of the national park range of the department.
The information of the Forest Department also says that in the financial year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, under the Dhaka Forest Department, 209.95 acres of forest land in the Kaliakair range, 100 acres in the Rajendrapur range, 234.02 acres in the Kachighata range, and 579 acres in the Sripur range were recovered from the possession of various individuals and organizations. Afforestation has been done. Beneficiaries are assigned to the gardens created. In the financial year 2021-2022, 209.95 acres of forest land used as agricultural land has been reclaimed and afforested in the Kachighata range under the department. Which is a record amount recovered in one financial year in one bit in Gazipur.
