16 cattle sustained burn injuries in Bagerhat dairy farm

One milk cow was roasted alive and 16 others sustained severe burn injures when some miscreants set fire on ‘Shaikh dairy farm’ belonging to one Nazmul Alam Shaikh alias Rubel (37) of village Chapatala within Jatrapur Union under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district at Wednesday mid night, according to a report received here. As a result, the owner of the farm incurred a heavy loss of Tk.50 lakh as claimed by the owner. But it could not be ascertained the culprits who set fire on the dairy farm.
It is learnt that Nizmul Alam (Rubel), owner of the dairy farm stayed in South Korea for a long period and after returning to the country from there he started the dairy farm. Some 90 litters’ milk was produced in the farm every day. He used to supply the milk to Milk Vita Company regularly. On information Dr. Lutfor Rahman, Khulna Divisional Director of Livestock Department and some other officers of the department visited the gutted dairy farm on Thursday at noon. Tariq Hossain, a field officer of Bagerhat District Livestock Department told, being informed of the matter they along with the high officials of the department reached the place of occurrence and we gave the necessary treatment to the burn injured cows sustained burn injuries mainly on their throats and other places of their bodies. Owner of the dairy farm told, at midnight he woke up from the bed after hearing the barking of dogs and he found the farm caught fire. Then he rushed to the spot and opened the gate of the farm so that the cows can go out from it.
By this time a number locals rushed to on hearing our hue and cryings and brought the fire under control after spraying the water on it. But in the mean time one cow was roasted alive and the rest cows sustained severe burn injuries.
