Adani power purchase deal: The whole contract to please the Indian Government

Government initiated the power deal with Adani to satisfy the government of India. The whole contract is a gift by the Bangladesh government to India after entirely overlooking the public interest. We strongly demanded the cancellation of power purchase
deal with Indian Adani power, the eminent citizens said in a press conference yesterday.
Due to the import dependency on primary sources for electricity generation rather than on domestic sources or renewable energy, the present government destroys our energy security and introduce a new kind of state sponsored crony capitalism where they cornering the common people by increasing the energy price repeatedly.
The speakers said these at a press conference organized by Bhasani Anusari Parishad for demanding the cancellation of the unequal power import deal with Adani at the Gonoshasthaya Kendra Hospital in the capital on Sunday.
Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra , said that both the local and foreign experts called this agreement to loot the country’s resources in the name of electricity import from India.
This deal is essentially to fill Adani’s pocket. It is entirely one-sided, corrupt and expensive which securing only the current regime interest by replacing the nation interest. We demanded full cancellation of this power deal, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury , a Ramon Magsaysay Awarded veteran community activist, added.
Anu Muhammad ,the former Member Secretary of National Committee to Protect Oil Gas Mineral Resources Power and Ports, said that , power contract with Adani was done to please Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As Modi creates an state-businessmen nexus after handover the looting license, so does this incumbent government here.
Even the Rooppur nuclear power plant with Russia is a costly, debt-dependent project. There was no need for those projects as our country has twice the production capacity than the electricity demand. So,we need no expensive power import from abroad, neither from Adani, he added.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the Convener of Nagarik Oikya, said that a pro-crony, isolated form mass people ruler is in power. Deal with Adani is purely political and this government is selling Bangladesh to the great powers.
Chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon Junaid Saki said that, agreements like Adani’s power deal cannot be done if there is a pro-people government in power. Ahead of the 2018 elections, Adani’s deal was one of the things that had been done to please the Indian government for being elected without people’s vote.
He also said that repression is being used on one hand and different powers are being pleased on the other hand to maintain power without voting. If India wants to keep this kind of group in power, they will no longer be the friend with the people of Bangladesh. Bangladeshi people expect that India will support to establish elected, people’s government here.
Convener of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Member Secretary of Bhasani Anusari Parishad Habibur Rahman Riju also spoke at the press conference.
