Former Pabna-2 MP sent to jail in rape case

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka yesterday sent former Awami League lawmaker from Pabna-2 Khandokar Azizul Haque Arzu to the jail rejecting his bail in a rape case.
Judge Begum Shamsunnahar of the tribunal passed the order after the lawmaker surrendered in the court, seeking bail in the case.
On January 16, the same tribunal issued an arrest warrant against the former lawmaker accepting the probe report of the case.
The court also directed the Officer-in-Charge of Adabor Police Station of the city to submit a report on the implementation of the arrest warrant by Wednesday.
On January 5, Police Bureau of Investigation
(PBI) submitted the report in the tribunal investigating the case.
An apprentice female lawyer filed the case with the tribunal on April 19 last year, bringing allegations of rape against the former lawmaker.
The tribunal on Wednesday recorded the complainant’s statement and directed the PBI to submit report in the court after investigating the case.
