Drive against buildings without fire safety certificate next week

Staff Reporter :
A joint operation is going to be started in the capital from next week against the buildings that do not comply with the fire safety law. The fire service will conduct this operation together with the two city corporations of Dhaka.
Director General (DG) of Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate Brigadier General Mine Uddin said this at a press conference on Wednesday (February 22) at noon held at the headquarters of the fire service in Fulbaria of the capital.
The DG talked about the return of the fire service delegation after the earthquake rescue work in Turkey.
The Fire Services DG said that it takes some time to implement anything. We hope you can see its implementation next week. First, we will go on a joint campaign with the City Corporation. We will look at the buildings that do not comply with fire safety laws. And other matters will be looked at by the designated department.
Bangladesh is at risk of earthquake. In this regard, the DG of Fire Service said that experts fear that there may be an earthquake in Bangladesh.
All of our 14,000 employees are trained. We are constantly training them and it is an ongoing process. We also have advanced equipment. But this is certainly not enough in case of major disasters.
So we are working with people who are our affiliates. We are continuing our training to prepare for such an eventuality.
At present, more than 14,000 fire service personnel are well trained. We had a target of making 62 thousand volunteers, out of which we made 50 thousand volunteers. They are training others.
There are many buildings in Dhaka city. Somewhere the road is narrow. As a result, it would be difficult for rescue workers to enter these areas during disasters.
In this regard, the DG of Fire Service said that if there is a major disaster like an earthquake in Dhaka, it is not a matter of whether we can enter or not. But we have to enter. That’s why we are arranging training.
So there is nothing to panic if something like this happens. Director General of Fire Service also said, we don’t want any such incident to happen. But you have to take preparations.
We are working to identify the buildings that are not built according to the building code and take necessary measures. We are working with City Corporation and Rajuk in this regard. We are trying to implement the jurisdiction that we have by running the mobile court jointly with the City Corporation and Rajuk, DG added.
