Two BCL leaders caught while extorting, sent to court

Two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Dhaka University unit were caught red-handed while extorting money from a group of visitors, who came to Book Fair from Chandpur. The two leaders of BCL were sent to court on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday in front of the Ramna Kali Mondir inside of the Ekushey Book Fair.
Arrested two students are Rajib Hossen Robin, Vice- President of Sergeant Johrul Houque Hall unit BCL and Mohaimenul Islam Emon, Vice-President of Master Da Surja Sen Hall.
Moreover, a case has been filed in this incident. Officer-in- Charge of Shahbagh Police Station Nur Mohammad confirmed this to The New Nation.
“The two were sent to the court as the victims have filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station,” he added.
The two students of DU stopped a group of book fair visitors identifying themselves as policemen and charged those visitors saying that the visitors were peddling drugs and searched their bodies. When they did not find any drugs, they snatched all the money from them which amounted to Tk 1500, according to police.
“Victims started shouting when they doubted those as snatchers and at that moment surrounding people captured them and handed them over to the Shahbagh Police Station,” he added.
The arrested BCL leaders have been also involved in snatching money, mobile phones and other things not only on the campus but outside also, BCL source said seeking anonymity.
