‘US wants stronger ties with Bangladesh’

The Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said, that the United States wanted to build up a robust partnership with Bangladesh, leaving aside all previous misunderstandings.
“The US wants good relations with Bangladesh. We have multi-dimensional relations with them. The sanction on RAB is a minor issue. The US delegations have had discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about these issues,” he said.
While addressing as the Chief Guest in an orientation ceremony held at Sylhet Agricultural University on Thursday, Dr Momen, in reply to the queries of the journalists, commented on the recent visits of the US, Indian and South Korean representatives in Dhaka.
The delegations have praised the endeavors of
Bangladesh and pledged to continue fostering stronger connections. About the Rohingya issue, the Foreign Minister said, that the US has given a positive response and assured Bangladesh to extend their cooperation in resolving the crisis.
About the visit of Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, he said that India has extended their full support to work with Bangladesh.
The Foreign Minister also said, that China can also boost the bilateral relations with Bangladesh by using all the possibilities.
According to Momen, the US recognises Bangladesh’s significance and is interested in fostering positive relations that will bring about new opportunities.
Over the last few months, Bangladesh has welcomed numerous senior officials from the US, including the recent visit by the Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu and Counselor of the US Department of State, Derek Chollet.
Counselor Chollet on Wednesday expressed his optimism regarding the future partnership with Bangladesh.
He also highlighted the robust partnership that has developed between the two nations over the past 51 years and emphasised that they are looking forward to extending this relation further in future.
