Book Fair gets momentum with high sales

The tenth day of Amar Ekushey Book Fair witnessed a satisfactory turnout of visitors, readers, writers and robust sales on Friday.
Hundreds of men, women and children thronged the fair and were wadding the fairground with great excitement searching their favorite book.  
The sales attendees were too exhausted and passing their busy time by expressing the core concepts of new books and selling.
Stalls attendees and publishers said that it was the largest crowds of this year’s fair and they also got a huge sale.
“Today, from this morning, the book selling is going on par. We are tired as passing busy time. The fair could not see earlier such a big number of
visitors,” Monjil Hossain, stalls attendee of Bangla Academy said.
Besides, it was third Shishu Prahar or dedicated hours especially for children and a satisfactory number of children, accompanied by guardians, came in the morning at the kids’ corner and bought their favourite books.
A total of three shows of Sisimpur played at the Shishu Prahar where Ikri, Hallum, Tuktuki, and Shiku, the characters of the Television series, pleasured them by singing and dancing.
“The visitors’ respond were highest than any other day. The book wrote about liberation war sales much,” Humayun Kobir, sales representative of University Press Limited (UPL) said.
“The publishers are usually waiting for weekend day as a large number of visitors come to the fair,” he added.
The fair, however, opened at 11:00am.
A total of 260 new books were published on Friday.
Two discussions titled ‘Birth centenary tribute: Artist Safiuddin Ahmed’ and ‘Birth centenary tribute: SM Sultan’ were held at the main stage of Bangla Academy.
An arts competition for children was held at Bangla Academy premises where a number of 446 children participated in three sections.
The fair will open at 11:00am tomorrow.
