10 held in Daudkandi in dacoity, drug cases

Police arrested a total of 10 accused in separate drives in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla, including seven individuals allegedly preparing to commit dacoity. Locally made weapons, yaba tablets, and cannabis were recovered during the operations.

According to Officer-in-Charge Shamsul Alam at Daudkandi Model Police Station, a police team conducted a raid in the Amirabad Bridge area of the upazila at around 11:50 pm on Friday and arrested seven people while they were allegedly preparing to commit dacoity.

The arrested persons were identified as Md Akash, 20, Md Nirab, 22, Ripon Hossain, 22, Roman, 22, Md Rifat, 20, Imon, 24, and Zahid Hasan, 22. They are residents of different areas of Daudkandi, Titas, and Chandina upazilas.

Police said three machetes, a small cleaver, a knife, and two Swiss gears were recovered from their possession. During the same drive, another accused, Russell Bhuiyan, 27, was also arrested.

In a separate operation, Mohammad Ruhul Amin, 42, an accused in a rape and human trafficking case, was arrested from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, police arrested Md Ramzan Sikdar, 48, an accused in a narcotics case, during a raid at the Satpara intersection under Barapara Union of the upazila. During the operation, police recovered 61 yaba tablets and 200 grams of cannabis from his possession.

Officer-in-Charge Shamsul Alam of Daudkandi Model Police Station said legal action had been taken against the arrested persons, and they had been sent to court.
