Staff Reporter :
At least eight RAB personnel were injured while exchanging fire with the members of Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) and militants in a gunfight in Bandarban’s Thanchi upazila on Tuesday morning. At this time the elite force also arrested five militants of both terrorist groups.
Director General of RAB M Khurshid Hossain gave this information in a press conference in Thanchi Tamatungi on Tuesday (February 7) afternoon.
He said they carried out the drive in Remacri bridge area on a tip-off that the members of two militant groups were passing through the area early in the morning.
Based on the RAB intelligence information, “Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) and militants fired at RAB members while they were conducting raid at Thanchi’s Remakri area in the morning. At that time, RAB fired back in self-defence, and firing started on both sides.”
He also said that at least 43 members of the militant organization and 14 members of the KNF organization had been arrested so far in the RAB recent operation. The drive is ongoing.
Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya has been organized by various militant organizations including Ansar-ul-Islam. They took refuge in the mountains because the law enforcement forces usually did not tread the places.
Recently 55 youths of 19 districts left their homes influenced by extremism in the name of new so-called Hijrat, got involved in militancy, and took shelter in hilly areas as part of Jama’atul Ansar. There, KNF members provided the youths with trainings to use weapons.
