Case against JCD leader Jonny’s ‘custodial death’ rejected

A Dhaka court yesterday rejected the case filed against 15 police officials, including a former DMP chief, over the ‘custodial death’ of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Nuruzzaman Jonny in January 2015.
Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order on Monday finding no sufficient grounds for taking into cognisance the charges brought against them, said Additional Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal.
Former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Miah, and Krishna Pada Roy, the then Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police and now Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, among others were made accused in the case.
