Steps demanded to stop Madhumati River erosion

Thousands of traders and students participated in the hour-long human chain in Naopara Union demandeing protection of the nearly 400-year-old traditional Naopara market of Naopara union of Madhukhali upazila from Madhumati River Srosion on Thursday.
Habibur Rahman Molya, Naopara Bazar Banik Samiti prominent patron and former chairman of Naopara Union Parishad , President of Bazar Vanik Samity Mihir Kumar Saha, General Secretary Abu Bakkar Siddique, Headmaster of Naopara High School Tipu Sultan, Headmaster of Naopara Government Primary School Yasmin Afroz, UP member Manjur Rahman, A. Baki, Atiyar Rahman and others were present there.
Speakers at the programme said that the Water Development Board’s set up Regulator System Project to protect the Naopara market last year.
In the current financial year, the work is done in a less important area instead of the Naopara market for unknown reasons.
However, nothing has been done to protect the 400-year-old market. Despite the allocation of 71% money in the union council for market development, no work has been done through the union for market development.
