Foolproof security at Ekushey Boi Mela: DMP

Staff Reporter :
There is no security threat surrounding this year’s Amar Ekushey Book Fair which starts today. Still, adequate security measures have been taken around the book fair, said DMP Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq while talking to the reporters after observing the overall security situation of Amar Ekushe Book Fair-2023 on Tuesday morning.
Khandkar Farooq said, foolproof three-tier security measures have been taken ahead of the Book Fair and ensuring security at the fair is one of the biggest responsibilities of DMP.
This year security will be tightened at book fair premises, Shaheed Minar to Shahbag and Nilkhet and primary checking teams will be deployed in the areas, said the DMP commissioner.
No vehicles will be allowed at book fair premises, he said, adding everyone should enter the fair venue through the archway after metal detector checking.
Every inches of the book fair have been brought under CCTV surveillance and plainclothes police will be deployed alongside regular police members, said Faruq.
Police will patrol the areas in vehicles and motorbikes and CTTC, bomb disposal unit, crime scene van and dog squad will remain alert to tackle any situation. A medical team and fire fighters will also be kept ready at the fair premises, he said.
