Six employees including two engineers of BCC terminated

Some 6 people including two engineers of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) have been sacked due to several allegations including neglect of duty, taking bribe.
BCC Administrative Officer Swapan Kumar Das confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon.
The sacked BCC employees are Assistant Engineer (Contractual) Baki Ullah, Sub-Assistant Engineer Ariful Islam, Estimator (Contractual) Shaon Akon, Work Assistant (Temporary) Shah Jalal, Tax Collection Assistant Noor Hossain and Shaheen Hossain.
BCC administrative officer Swapan Kumar Das said, under the direction of Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, repairing and construction works of all the roads of Barishal City Corporation is being done with a 5-year guarantee.
Accordingly, the road construction and repairing works are going on under the supervision of responsible officers of the respective branches of the City Corporation accordingly.
However, even though the quality of work there was bad, the officials did not take care of it properly and did not report the matter to the authorities.
Therefore, Assistant Engineer (Contractual) Baki Ullah, Sub-Assistant Engineer Ariful Islam, estimator(Contractual) Shawon Akon, Working Assistant (Temporary) Shah Jalal have been dismissed for these reasons of negligence.
Besides, according to a holding number of Ward No. 5, Assistant Noor Hossain collected taxes for took three fiscal years’ money from the customer and but deposited money of only one fiscal year in the treasury of the City Corporation. Thus he embezzled the rest of the money and tried to keep it a secret, but when the matter was caught during the posting of the ledger, he was fired for that crime.
Similarly, the mayor reduced the tax in favor of 10 holdings of one person in Ward No. 6 of Barishal city. Still, tax collection assistant Shahin Hossain illegally collected and embezzled Tk 140,000 from that person. As the matter was proved, he was also dismissed.
They have been dismissed from their jobs with three months’ salary as per service rule after the allegations of negligence of duty and illegal collection of money have been proved against them, he said.
