Dr. Debasish reappointed BARI DG

The government has reappointed renowned agricultural scientist and prominent entomologist Dr. Debasish Sarker as the Director General (DG) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) for another two years on contractual basis, according to an order issued by the Contract and Foreign Recruitment Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration on January 19, 2023. Dr. Debasish Sarker served as Director General (Current Charge) of BARI from 21 October 2021 to 29 November 2022 and as Director General (Grade-1) from 30 November 2022 to 30 December 2022.
Before taking charge as Director General, Dr. Debasish Sarker was the Director of Pulses Research Center, BARI, Ishwardi, Pabna. Earlier, he was working as Chief Scientific Officer of the Entomology Division of BARI, Gazipur. In addition to his role as Chief Scientific Officer, he also served as the Director of the project entitled “Development and expansion of bio-rational based integrated pest management technologies of vegetables, fruits and betel leaf” under GoB.
Dr. Debasish Sarker was born on 31 December 1963 in the village of Chawalpara in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district. He joined the then Mango Research Station (presently Regional Horticulture Research Centre), BARI, Chapainawabganj in 1990 as a scientific officer. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Senior Scientific Officer, Principal Scientific Officer and Chief Scientific Officer at the Entomology Division of BARI, Gazipur.
Dr. Debasish Sarker successfully obtained his PhD in Entomology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 2010. He has published 40 research articles in various home and foreign scientific journals. He also regularly publishes various articles on science research in daily and monthly magazines.
Dr. Debasish Sarker traveled to USA, UAE, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Philippines, Taiwan, China and the United Kingdom to attend various trainings, seminars, workshops and symposium. Currently, he is serving as the president of the Bangladesh Entomological Society. He was twice elected Treasurer and Secretary General of the Bangladesh Entomological Society, respectively.
