People in dire straits as nobody is there to control price hike of essentials

This price hike in kitchen essentials is just too much for fixed-income people. Be it vegetables, fish or groceries, there is no item whose price has not gone up recently. Prices of ginger and garlic have gone up. Even vegetables have become costlier than the previous week. There is no vegetable that can be bought for less than Tk 30 a kg. Most of the vegetables are selling for Tk 50 or above per kg.
People are currently struggling to bear family expenses due to the rising prices of essentials. The prices have gone up significantly in the last six months and that’s why the fixed-income community needs to compromise their food budget.
The price of ginger has almost doubled in just a week. Spinach was selling for Tk 15-20 a bundle yesterday, up from Tk 10 last week. Eggs were being sold for Tk 130 a dozen yesterday against last week’s price of Tk 110. Cauliflowers were selling for Tk 40-50 each on Friday, up from Tk 20-30 last week. Most people are buying less, but there are some buyers for whom price is not a factor. The prices of meat, fish and broiler chicken increased by Tk 10-Tk 20 per kg this week compared to the previous week.
The government has no control over Bazar and its economic failure to stabilize dollar shortage due to capital flights, fund embezzlement and uncontrolled corruption along with poor governance in the banking sector make citizens suffer. Economists for many years have been warning of economic failure for mega corruption, high loan scams, and poor governance in the banks and share markets, and now we are witnessing the reality. Without accountability, no system can survive, and the incumbent technically allowed the business people to gamble with the market for their own benefits without bothering ordinary citizens. People are in dire situations, but nobody is in a position in the country to support them.
