30 people injured in Ashuganj clash

At least 30 people were injured and 20 shops set on fire in a local clash between the supporters of UP chairman and a member in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj upazila on Wednesday due to previous disputes.
The clash took place at Durgapur village of Durgapur union in the upazila yesterday morning.
According to local sources, on Friday evening, a school student Rimon came to Durgapur village in a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw from the railway gate of Ashuganj Upazila Sadar of the district. Auto driver Rahul Amin demanded Tk 30. At that time, there was an argument. At one point, auto driver Ruhul Amin beat the schoolboy Rimon. Later Rimon told the matter to their Durgapur village’s UP member Mizan Mia. Mizan Mia told the matter to Durgapur Union Parishad Chairman Russell Mia.
However, on the way back home, member Mizan Mia was attacked by the chairman’s men. On hearing the news, people of two rival groups locked into clashes.
Besides, an uneasy situation is prevailing in Ashuganj due to the day-long clashes between the two sides. Additional police have been deployed in and around the area to avert any untoward situation.
Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Zainal Abedin said that additional police have been deployed from Ashuganj police station on receiving information about the clash.
