6 killed in separate road crashes across country

At least six people were killed and several others injured in three separate road crashes in the country on Monday.
In Gaibandha, at least three persons were killed and two others injured in a tragic road accident on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Choumatha intersection area of Palashbari upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased have been identified as Bidyut Sarker, 42, son of one Badsha Miah of Merirhat village under Hossainpur union, Subhas Chandra, 35, son of one Gonesh Chandra of Mirzapur village under Barishal union of Palashbari upazila and Sumon Chandra, 35, son of one Subhas Chandra of Abhirampur village under Darbasta union of Gobindaganj upazila.
According to the locals and police, a passenger bus of Barkat Paribahan
was going towards Rangpur from Dhaka. When the bus reached Choumatha area, it rammed two motorbikes and lost control and later collided with a truck around 9:30am. As a result, five motorbike riders were injured and local people rushed them to local upazila health complex where the duty doctors declared three of them dead.
Md Masud Rana, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Palashbari Police Station, said the bus and the truck were seized but their drivers managed to flee away from the spot.
In Dinajpur, two people including grandmother and grandchild were killed and three others injured in a tragic road crash when a pasasengrer bus hit a van in Ghoraghat upazila of the district. The accident took place on the Ghoraghat-Dinajpur regional highway in Haripara village of the upazila on Monday noon. The deceased have been identified as Tithi Rani (17), daughter of one Bidhan Chandra Barman of Beshain village under Gobindganj Upazila and Ratan Bala (50), wife of one Vijay Chandra Barman of the same area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghoraghat police station Abu Hasan Kabir confirmed the matter to the media and said that the victims’ bodies were handed over to the two families as there was no complaint from the relatives.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist named Shahidul Islam (40) was killed by an oil tanker in front of the Scout Building in Kakrail of the capital. The incident happened around 4 am on Monday morning. Later, he was rescued with serious injuries and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College & Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
