Case against journo Rozina complainant rejects final report

The complainant of the case filed against the Prothom Alo senior journalist Rozina yesterday rejected the final report submitted by the detectives clearing Senior Journalist Rozina Islam of the charges in the case filed against her under the Official Secrets Act.
Deputy Secretary Shibbir Ahmed Osmani of the Health Ministry, who is the complainant, on Sunday submitted a petition through his lawyer, seeking time for filing a no-confidence petition against the final report.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur of Dhaka granted the petition and set January 23 for submission of the no-confidence petition.
Rozina, now on bail, was present in the courtroom, General Recording Officer (GRO) Md Nizam Uddin Fakir confirmed the media.
Investigation Officer Morshed Hossain Khan, also an Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, on July 4 last year submitted the final report to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, seeking relieving Rozina of the charges.
In the report, the investigator said no evidence was found against Rozina and the case was a matter of “factual error”.
Rozina, a Special Correspondent of the Bangla Daily Prothom Alo, wrote several in-depth reports on corruption in the health sector during the Covid pandemic.
On May 17, 2021, Deputy Secretary Osmani, filed the case against Rozina with Shahbagh Police Station over allegations of stealing and capturing photos of “highly sensitive” government documents.
She was confined to the Health Ministry at the Secretariat for more than five hours that day before being handed over to the police.
On May 23, 2021, she walked out of the jail on bail.
