The first phase Bishwa Ijtema ended with Akheri Munajat on Sunday.
The final prayer (Akheri Munajat) of the three-day Ijtema, conducted by Maulana Zubair Hassan, the Bangladeshi leader of Tabligh Jamaat, began around 9:57am.
Defying cold and heavy fog, thousands of devotees took part in the Ijtema ground on the bank of river Turag at Tongi while numbers of more people attended at the Akheri Munajat from Gazipur, Dhaka and its surrounding areas.
The devotees flocked to the Ijtema ground to attend the Akheri Munajat. Devotees from different countries of the world also took part in the first phase of Ijtema.
Number of people joined the prayers even from rooftops buildings, nearby houses, and on the roads and open spaces.
Earlier on the day, hedayati sermon was given by Maulana Abdur Rahman of India after Fazr prayers.
A total of seven devotees have died at the Ijtema venue from old age complications.
The first phase of the Ijtema began on the banks of the Turag river on Friday after two years of break because of the Covid pandemic.
The second phase of the Ijtema will officially begin next Friday (January 20). Maulana Saad followers will take part in it.
