Prices of egg, zinger and garlic rise, no good news from rice

Prices of essential commodities in the capital are showing upward trend. Especially egg, zinger, garlic and rice are giving no relief in the daily life of the people.
Suddenly the egg price per dozen sells at Tk 130 in the capital, whereas last week it was sold at Tk 115-120.
Karwan Bazar egg trader Ezzazul Hoque quoted short supply in whole sale market as the reason. As a result the egg price rose by Tk 10-15 per dozen.
The price of coarse rice has decreased by five taka per kg, though the price of fine rice remained unchanged.
Arfan Sarkar, Proprietor of Shariyatpur Chal bander from Rampura said the coarse rice of Aman has reached the market which has impacted its price favorably.
He said ‘Sworna’ rice was sold at Tk 50 per kg few days ago. It is now being sold at Tk 48, and ‘Pijam was selling at Tk 58 to Tk 60 and coming down to Tk 55 to Tk 57.
Arfan Sarkar further said if nothing obstructs supply, then the coarse rice price will be reduced more.
But coarse flour, sugar and edible oil are selling at Tk 70, Tk 115 and Tk190 per killo and litre respectively.
As such, none knows when these food items will return to the comfort.
In the market it was seen that the loose sugar is being sold at Tk 110 to Tk 115 per kg while the government rate is Tk 102 and Tk 107 respectively.
 Prices of vegetables including cauliflower, beans, cabbage, radish, brinjal, green pepper, papaya, and potato have gone down by five taka to Tk 15 per kg at the weekend.
Early varieties of beans, which were sold at Tk 200 per kg, are now being sold at Tk40 per kg. Green chili sells at Tk120 per kg. Prices of leafy vegetables including spinach in the Karwan Bazar and Moghbazar kitchen markets have also dropped five taka from Tk15 per bundle.
Visiting the markets in the capital on Friday, it was seen that the supply of winter vegetables has increased.
In Karwan Bazar, brinjal is being sold at Tk25 to Tk35, beans at Tk35 to Tk40, green chilli at Tk40 to Tk50, radish at Tk35, new variety of potato at Tk30, carrot at Tk50 and bitter gourd at Tk30.
Mohammad Mosharraf, a vegetable seller of Kalyanpur Bazar, said that the price of vegetables has decreased.
Mohammad Rubel Hossain, a vegetable seller at Karwan Bazar, said while the prices of vegetables have decreased, the prices of other daily necessities have not.  
Vegetables has been grown reportedly high in Rangpur, Bogura, Dinajpur, Munshiganj, Pabna, Jashore, Jamalpur, Narsingdi, Jhenaidah and Rajshahi. As a result, most markets now have an ample supply of winter vegetables including cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, radish, turnip, beans, tomato, onion leaves, gourd, broccoli, beans, carrot and coriander.
Ali Hossain, a salesman of Yasin General Store, Karwan Bazar, said, price of aromatic rice has increased by six taka per kg.
“We are buying at a wholesale price of Tk132, which was Tk128. We are new selling at Tk134 only,” he said.
In his shop, small grain lentils are priced at Tk140 per kg, packed two Kg flour at Tk145 and bottled soybean oil at Tk192 per litre whereas the government has decreased Tk 5 per litter.
The price of rice in Karwan bazar is still high. Paijam variety is being sold at Tk55 to 56 per kg, BR Atash at Tk55 to 58, Miniket at Tk70 to 72.
Mohammad Roni, a rice seller at Karwan Bazar, said that although it is the season of rice, the price has not decreased.
“If the mill owners do not reduce the price, the price of rice will not come down,” he said.
In the meat market, beef is selling at Tk680 to Tk700 while red meat is Tk900-1,000. The price of broiler chicken is Tk150 per kg while Pakistani variety of chicken is Tk260 per kg. Walking fish Tk 900 per Kilo,Pabda at Tk 350 and Boal Machh at Tk 1100 per Kg.
