Rifat murder: HC refuses to hear Minni’s bail petition

Staff Reporter :
A judge of a division bench of the High Court on Wednesday refused to hear of the bail petition of death-row convict Ayesha Siddika Minni in the case filed for murdering her husband Rifat Sharif in Barguna.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Biswajit Debnath dropped the bail petition from its hearing list after Justice Bishwajit Debnath refused to hear the matter.
Earlier in the day, lawyers Sayeda Nasrin and Jamiul Haque Faisal placed the bail petition before the HC for hearing.
Jamiul Haque Faisal said that Justice Bishwajit Debnath did not disclose why he declined to hear the bail petition of Ayesha Siddika Minni. “We will now move the same bail petition before another bench of the High Court,” he said.
On October 16 last year, Ayesha Siddika Minni filed the petition with the HC seeking bail in the case.
Minni, now in Kashimpur jail, submitted the petition through her lawyers ZI Khan Panna and Jamiul Haque Faisal, saying that she was not involved in the murder; rather, she tried to save Rifat.
Rifat (25) was hacked to death by a group of youths in front of Barguna Government College in broad daylight on June 26, 2019.
On 30 September, 2020, Minni and five others were sentenced to death by district and sessions Judge Md Asaduzzaman over Rifat’s killing in Barguna in broad daylight in 2019.
Later Minni on October 6 in 2020 filed appeal petition with the High Court challenging the lower court verdict.
