1.27 lakh Bangladeshis to perform hajj this year

About one lakh 27 thousand and 198 Bangladeshi pilgrims will perform Hajj this year, said State Minister of Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan.
Replying to query from Abdul Latif in the National Parliament on Sunday, Faridul Haque Khan said the Saudi government may allow about 1, 27, 198 Bangladeshis to perform Hajj this year considering its population and the improved Covid-19 situation.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
The minister said that 1, 26,923 pilgrims from Bangladesh performed Hajj in 2019 while the KSA government increased the quota for Bangladeshi pilgrims by 10,000 in 2020. But Hajj was not held in the year for the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
To say, 60,000 people from Bangladesh were allowed to join the Hajj in 2022 as the Saudi government halved the quotas for pilgrims in different countries.
The Minister said that about 1, 27, 198 Bangladeshis will perform Hajj this year an increase 148 per cent to the year 2009.
He labeled it as a milestone of the success of this government.
