Gouripur Day celebrated

The Gouripur Day and its 253rd Foundation Anniversary was celebrated by Creative Association Historical Society and Library for the first time in Gouripur upazila in Mymensingh on Sunday .
Fauzia Naznin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Gouripur upazila, inaugurated the programme by lighting 253 candles. The programme took place at Gouripur Dhan Mahal Historical Society premises of this town with the participation of the members of the organisation, journalists, teachers, elite persons and researchers among others
A pandemic had ravaged the zamindari of Jugalkishore Roy Chowdhury (Hindu son of Nabab Siraj-ud-daullah) at Jafarshahi Pargona (Jamalpur)) and in1770 he decided to relocate to neighbouring Gouripur of Bokainagar in then Momansing Pargona (Mymensingh district) — then a thick, impenetrable jungle. Under his supervision, Gouripur estate soon developed into a beautiful town and the headquarters of the landlord and his family. A few buildings of the Roy Chowdhury family still exist in Gouripur upazila.
Fauzia Naznin , Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Gouripur upazila attended the meeting as the chief guest with the president of Creative Association Historical Society and Library, Mohammad Raihan Uddin Sarker in the chair.
The discussion was addressed among others by Engr.Mohammad Ali Zinnah, former Superintendent ( Retd.) of Government Textile Vocational Institute, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Sohel Rana Pappu, Beg Faruk Ahmed, former president of Gouripur Press Club, Editor Azam Zahirul Islam, Md. Abdul Gafur, Upazila General Secretary of Jatio Party, Kobi Nurul Abedin, Bahar Uddin, Journalist Humayun Kabir, Kazi Abdullah Al Amin, Zahirul Huda Liton, Lutfur Rahman Khokon, Motalib bin Ayat, Mohsin Mahmud Shah, Jhintu Debnath, Md. Saiful Alam, Supak Ranjan Ukil, Md. Mozammel Hossain, AL leader Ramzan Ali Mukti, Upazila Assistant Administrative Officer Md. Raich Uddin, ICT Program Assistant Abdus Salam. and many others were present.
