Record 281 dengue deaths in one year, 62382 patients hospitalised

Bangladesh recorded the highest ever 281 deaths in dengue between January 1 to December 31 in 2022. Among the deceased, 27 died in the last month of December.
The first death from the mosquito-borne viral disease was reported on June 21, last year, the statement of the Directorate General of the Health Services (DGHS) said.
The total number of patients rose to 62,382 in the year. Of them, 39,320 were reported in Dhaka while 23,162 outside of Dhaka.
Meanwhile about 61,763 patients recovered from the disease.
Of them, 38,886 were in Dhaka while 22,877 reported outside Dhaka, according to data released on Sunday by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the data revealed, of the 281 deaths, 173 were in Dhaka while 108 were beyond Dhaka. After Dhaka, Chattgoram division recorded the highest 69 beyond deaths. Then Khulna and Barishal division logged 12 deaths.
Earlier, Bangladesh recorded the highest 179 deaths in 2019.
41 more dengue patients hospitalized in 24 hours
Meanwhile, 41 more dengue patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours. Of the new patients, 21 are admitted to hospitals in Dhaka till Sunday morning.
Of the new patients, 21 were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka and 20 beyond, said DGHS.
A total of 249 dengue patients, including 152 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
