Pro-govt panel sweeps DUTA polls

Pro-Awami League “Blue” panel swept the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) election yesterday.
The panel got four posts in the 15-member executive committee, while the “White” panel backed by BNP-Jamaat secured one only.
Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan of Institute of Nutrition and Food Science was elected president and Dr Zinat Huda of Sociology Department became general secretary. Prof Mohammad Lutfor Rahman of Statistics Department was elected the lone Vice-President from “White” panel.
Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan bagged 819 votes, while his rival Prof ABM Obaidul Islam from White Panel secured 384 votes. Zinat Huda bagged 712 votes while White Panel’s Prof Saddiqur Rahman Khan of the White panel with 581 votes.
Abu Khaled Muhammad Khademul Haque of Islamic History and Culture Department and Md Masudur Rahman of Marketing Department were elected Join-Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Nine executive members elected from the “Blue” panel are Dr AGM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Prof K M Saiful Islam Khan, Prof Dr Chandra Nath Podder, Prof Muhammad Amzad Ali, Associate Prof Md Kamrul Hassan, Prof Ziaur Rahman, Muhammad Ali Akkas, Prof Md Maksudur Rahman, Prof Sharif Akhteruzzaman and Prof Sharmin Musa.
