Rangpur champs in Bangamata Girls’ Football

Sylhet Division team emerged champions in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Boys’ (Under-17) Football Competition at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the city’s Banani on Thursday, while Rangpur Division team became champions in the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Girls’ (Under-17) Football Competition at the same venue on the same day.
Sylhet Division team beat Barishal Division team by 5-4 goals in the tie-breaker of the final to clinch the title of the Boys’ Group Football Competition. The stipulated time was ended in a 1-1 draw. Saifur Rahman of Sylhet scored one goal, while Shahadat Gazi of Barishal netted one goal.
On the other hand, Rangpur Division team defeated Khulna Division team by 2-1 goals in the final to win the title of the Girls’ Group Football Competition.
Shila Akter and Shanti of Rangpur Division team scored one goal each, while Mania of Khulna Division team pulled off one. Ministry of Youth and Sports arranged the football competitions with the cooperation of Sports Directorate.  
After the final matches, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the cheque of Taka three lakh and a trophy to the champions respectively, while gave the cheque of Taka two lakh and a trophy to the runners-up respectively.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mesbah Uddin, Chairman on the Standing Committee of Ministry of Youth and Sports Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, MP, Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Director of Sports Directorate Mohammad Nure Alam Siddiqui, President of Bangladesh Football Federation Kazi Salahuddin were present at the time.
