Government canal occupied
The Multi-storied commercial buildings are being constructed at Nathoi area of Gournadi by illegally occupying government canal by side on Gournadi-Gopalganj via Agailjhara-Poysarhat road in Barishal .
A local influential person is working day and night to construct a building creating shade with a cloth-fence by the side of the canal.
No one from the local had the courage to open their mouths because of the fear of that influential person.
Journalists after visiting the area on Wednesday afternoon, the government canal flowing along the road is on the western side adjacent to Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Institute of Nathai village.
Habib Sardar, the elder brother of an influential local government official, is illegally constructing multi-storied commercial buildings in the canal through another Sujan Sardar of the same family.
The work of casting the ground floor has already been completed.
College girl violated
A case has been filed against two youths for allegedly raping a college girl on the roof of a house by calling to meet her family for marrying socially and recorded the scene.
On Wednesday (December 21), the victim (22) filed the case with Barguna Sadar police station.
Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed confirmed lodging the case accusing Imaz Uddin Taj and his cohort Nahid Apu. Legal action will be taken against the accused subject to investigation, the OC said.It is said in the statement that the young woman is studying in Barguna Government College residing in a girls’ mess adjacent to the college.
Accused number Imaj Uddin Taj had been offering love and marriage to the college girl for a long time. Not agreeing to this, he uses strategy to meet the proposal at family level.
One killed in auto-rickshaw-tomtom collision
A day labourer named Badsha Fakir (60) died in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a paddy-laden tomtom (locally assembled tempo) at Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali district on Wednesday. His house is in Salimpur village of Nilganj union. The accident took place on Tuesday night in an area called Nilganj Ghutabacha on the Kalapara-Kuakata Road. According to local sources, Badsha Fakir met with this accident on his way back to his home by auto-rickshaw from Hajipur area of Upazila.
Local residents rescued him while injured and admitted him to Upazila Health Complex. Later, as his condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty referred him to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
From Barishal he was referred to Dhaka for better treatment and died early on Wednesday after being admitted to the Red Crescent Hospital in Shramoli area of Dhaka.
OC of Kalapara police station Muhammad Jasim said that the police have been sent to the spot. He said that legal measures are under process.
Driver was killed
Driver of a bus was killed and at least 15 injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses in the opposite direction in Kashipur area on Barishal-Dhaka highway of Barishal city.The head-on collision was occured between Islam transport plying on Dhaka to Barishal and SR transport plying on Barishal to Swarupkathi( Pirojpur) route. The accident took place in the Kashipur area of Barishal city on the Barishal-Dhaka highway at around 3:30 pm on Friday. Deceased Muhammad Kalam , was driver of SR transport and a resident of Manikkathi area of Babugonj upazila under , Barishal district.
