3 held with 11 stolen cows in Bagerhat

The district Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested three alleged members of a cattle theft syndicate in Bagerhat and recovered 11 stolen cows. A truck allegedly used to transport the stolen cattle was also seized during the operation.

The arrestees are Imran Sheikh (40), son of Abu Sayeed Sheikh of Shyambagat village in Fakirhat Upazila; Nahid Sheikh (27), son of late Shukur Sheikh of Solakara Dakshinpara village in Rampal Upazila; and Arif Molla (38), son of Dhuna Molla of Katenga village in Terokhada Upazila of Khulna district.

Police Super Hassan Mohammad Nasir Rikabder said DB personnel arrested Imran Sheikh and Nahid Sheikh from the Shewli Filling Station area in Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat on Thursday night, according to a delayed report received here.

Later, based on information obtained during their interrogation, police recovered 11 cows, including a calf, from Arif Molla’s house in Terokhada, Khulna. Arif Molla was also arrested during the raid, and a truck allegedly used to transport the stolen cattle was seized.

The recovered cattle are estimated to be worth around Tk 1 million.
Police said Imran Sheikh has six cases filed against him, while Nahid Sheikh has three cases and Arif Molla has two cases pending over various offences.

Bagerhat Police Super Hassan Mohammad Nasir Rikabder said three members of an organised cattle theft syndicate operating in the southern region had been arrested.

“They used to steal cattle from different areas and sell them elsewhere. Our drive to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate is continuing,” he said.
