12 parties of 20-party form new alliance

Twelve political parties of the BNP led 20-party alliance formed a new political alliance on Thursday.
Mostafa Jamal Haidar, Chairman of Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar), announced the emergence of a new alliance in a press briefing at the National Press Club in the capital.
The partners of the 12-party alliance are Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) led by Mustafa Jamal Haider, Bangladesh Kalyan Party led by Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) led by Abdul Karim Abbasi and Shahadat Hossain Salim, Bangladesh Jatiya Dal led by Syed Ehsanul Huda, National Democratic Party (NDP) led by KM Abu Taher, Bangladesh Muslim League led by Zulfikar Bulbul Chowdhury, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam led by Mufti Mohiuddin Ikram, Bangladesh Labor Party led by Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Islami Oikya Jote led by Maulana Abdur Rakib, Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) led by Barrister Tasmia Pradhan, Bangladesh Communist Party led by Nurul Islam, Bangladesh Islamic Party led by Advocate Abul Kasem.
Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Chairman of the Labour Party read out the declaration paper of the newly formed alliance.
“For sake of restoring democracy and people’s voting rights, we will participate in the ongoing anti-government movement in the street. We will be recognised as a 12-party alliance,” said Dr. Iran.
He said, “The 12-party alliance will remain active on street movements in simultaneous anti-government agitations with BNP. Our aims will be to force the government to resign and hold the next election under a nonpartisan caretaker government through a new Election Commission. We will continue our agitation until the achievement of final victory.”
The 12-party alliance also expressed solidarity with the BNP’s 27-point outline of ‘Structural Reform of the State’ Dr. Iran said.
Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Chairman of Kallyan Party, said, “Before abolition, the 20-party alliance held its last meeting at the BNP Chairperson’s Office on December 9, 2022. The leaders of the alliance decided in the meeting not to use the previous name 20-party alliance anymore.”
He said that the 20-party alliance was formed on April 18, 2012 formally, but the abolition saw no formal declaration.”
