Jamaat Ameer on fresh remand in CTTC case

Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka placed Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on a fresh remand for three days in connection with his alleged link with militancy.
Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Nur of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order on Wednesday.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Inspector Md Abul Bashar produced him in the court and sought a 8-day fresh remand.
Earlier on December 13, the court granted a seven-day remand to interrogate Jamaat Ameer in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station. On the day a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit arrested Dr Shafiqur Rahman from his Bashundhara house of the capital.
On December 13, while seeking remand, a CTTC official said Dr Shafique was directly and indirectly involved with assisting banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam men to happen subversive activities in the country.
CTTC Inspector and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Abul Bashar also mentioned Dr Shafique had links with the new militant outfit “Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya”. Besides, he was allegedly aware of his son Dr Rafat Chowdhury’s militant activities. So he needs to be remanded to find out vital clues about the incident, the IO added.
It may be remembered that Dr Rafat was arrested in connection with the same case on November 9. He is reportedly the Sylhet Regional Coordinator of Al-Qaeda-inspired militant outfit and has been persuading young people to leave their homes for alleged Jihad, according to police.
