Bangladesh will face a daunting task against India as they scored 133 for the loss of eight wickets at the end of the second day play of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday.
India piled up a mammoth total of 404 in the first innings on the second day.
Bangladesh trailed by 271 runs in the first innings.
The Bangladesh batters, who batted on the second day failed to show a satisfactory batting performance against the tight, controlled and superb bowling attack by Indian bowlers. Bangladesh lost their batters in regular intervals.
Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das and Zakir Hasan could make a modest score. Mushfiq, Litton, Zakir added 28, 24 and 20 runs respectively to the Bangladesh total.
Kuldeep Yadav captured four wickets in the space of 33 runs, while Mohammed Siraj grabbed three wickets at the cost 14 runs.
Umesh Yadav took one wicket for 33 runs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ebadot Hossain were at the crease on 16 and 13 runs respectively before the two umpires pocketed the bails for the second day.
India resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 278 for the loss of six wickets.
Shreyas Iyer resumed his first innings with the over-night score of 82. He could add just six runs on the second day as he was bowled out by right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain when India’s total was 293 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Iyer’s dismissal, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav added together 92 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Ashwin stumped out by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan off right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the tourists’ score was 385 for the loss of eight wickets.
Ashwin knocked a patient 58. He hit two fours and two sixes in his 113-ball innings.
After Ashwin’s departure, Kuldeep’s innings was short-lived as he was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam when the visitors’ total was 393 for the loss of nine wickets.
Kuldeep hit a polished 40. His 114-ball innings saw five fours.
Number-11 batsmen Mohammed Siraj (4) was caught at the long-on by Mushfiqur Rahim off Miraz when the touring side’s innings was concluded.
Taijul and Miraz claimed four wickets each conceding 112 and 133 runs respectively.
