Farm gutted at Baraigram

Three houses of a farmer named Forkan Sarkar were completely gutted in a sudden fire at Baraigram in Natore district. The incident took place at Nitainagar village of the upazila at around 10 pm on Sunday night. Five other goats including a pregnant cow were burnt to death. Besides, a total of five people were injured while fighting the fire. Among the injured, a young man named Mohan (20) has been admitted to a local clinic. Others were given first aid. The affected family claims that there has been a financial loss of at least five lakh taka. However, nothing is known exactly about the origin of the fire. Upazila Chairman Dr. Md Siddiqur Rahman Patwari visited the spot on Monday afternoon. According to the affected family, when the members of the house were asleep on Sunday night, the house suddenly caught fire and quickly spread to the adjacent living room including the kitchen and cattle shed. At that time, the neighbors came forward on the shouts of the family members and controlled the fire with efforts of about of an hour. But before that, three houses and six cows and goats along with about 45 maunds of paddy, jute and garlic were burnt.

12 candidates withdraw three nomination papers

Some 12 candidates, including 3 chairman candidates, have withdrawn their nomination papers in Banpara Municipality and Joari and Majhgaon Union Parishad elections of Baraigram Upazila of Natore district. They withdrew these nomination papers on Saturday, the last day of ithdrawal of nominations. Upazila Election Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Md Haseeb Bin Sahab said that chairman candidates Abdul Quader and Abu Yunus Anwar Joari union and chairman candidate Abdus Samad of Majhgaon union have withdrawn their nomination papers. Among the councilor candidates of Banpara municipality, Kartik Chandra and Abdul Jalil in Ward No. 9 and Alamgir Hossain in Ward No. 5 have withdrawn their candidatures. Mamunur Rashid in Ward No. 3 and Ramzan Ali in Ward No. 9 of Joari Union, besides Abul Kalam Azad and Shah Alam in Ward No. 2, Bajlul Haque Molla in Ward No. 7 and Shamim Uddin in Ward No. 9 of Majhgaon Union have withdrawn their nomination papers. It should be noted that the election of two unions including Banpara municipality will be held on December 29.
