‘BSC now profitable organisation’

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that due to the right steps under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 14 years, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has become a profitable company. BSC has made a net profit of Tk 225 cr 81 lakh in the financial year 2021-22.
BSC stands as an established company in the share market.
He said these things in his address as the chief guest at the 45th Annual General Meeting of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation at Chittagong Boat Club on Sunday.
The State Minister said that the Parliament has passed the “Bangladesh National Flag Ships (Protection of Interests) Act 2019”. As a result, BSC will get priority in sea transport of imported or exported goods with government funds. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, many steps have been taken for the development of BSC in continuation of the overall development of the government.
He also said that BSC has woken up again after the current government took charge. A plan to procure 21 ships has been adopted. 6 new ships have been added to BSC’s fleet. A number of other new vessels are in the process of being procured. BSC will play an important role not only in the country but also in the international shipping business due to the right approach and steps.
Mentioning that the capacity of Chittagong port has been increased, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that besides increasing the capacity of Chittagong port, thousands of crores of rupees are being invested in the development of Mongla port and the development of the new sea port Payra port. Four new Marine Academies have been established to produce skilled seamen; Three more Marine Academies will be established. National Marine Institutes have been established at Barisal and Madaripur. This will produce a considerable number of sailors. They will play a greater role in earning foreign exchange and make the country’s economy more dynamic. BSC will play a role as one of the partners in the implementation of Sunil economy.
Among others, the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md. Mustafa Kamal, Managing Director of BSC Commodore SM Moniruzzaman, Shareholder Kabir Ahmed Chowdhury, Hiralal Banik, Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Abdul Quader etc were present on the occasion among others.
