1,319 arrested on fifth day of special-drive

Police arrested 1,319 people on various charges in 24 hours till 6:00pm on Monday as part of their 15-day country-wide special drive.
A total of 2,226 drives were conducted across the country during that period, according to the database of Police Headquarters (PHQ).
A total of 405 cases were filed against the arrestees, Md Monzur Rahman, assistant inspector general of PHQ, confirmed this information to the media.
Besides, Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 255 people in the past 24 hours. Since December 1, DMP has arrested a total of 757 people, according to a notification.
During the nationwide special drive, police also recovered two firearms; around 25,207 pieces of Yaba and 200 kilogrammes of marijuana; 481 bottles of Phensedyl
and local firearms and liquor bottles, said AIG Monzur.
Earlier on Sunday, the fourth day of the special drive, police arrested 1356 people, conducted 2,321 drives, and filed 358 cases against the arrestees, said the PHQ official.
On November 29, PHQ directed field-level officials to carry out a 15-day special drive across the country to prevent any “untoward incident ahead of Victory Day”.
