Tawfiqur Rahman Tamim, a 2nd-year student at the Geography Department of Jahangirnagar University(JU) is now a full-time debater. But how were his oratory skills when he was a fresher? When asked, Tamim felt embarrassed and replied that before starting the Journey with Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization he could not even speak in public. Not only Tamim, JUDO, the Central Debate Organization of JU is making such types of debaters every year with the motto of transforming debate into a social movement. Hundreds of JU students every year take part in its Freshers’ Reception and Debate Workshop and regular siting ( Adda) to prepare themselves to fight in the battle of argument.
Another benchmark of the organization is, it made history by breaking the boundary. An international tournament was arranged titled MJF-JUDO Eminence the last year for the very first time in JU. A total of teams from home and abroad competed in the debate tournament.
Besides, the debate arena organized EMK center-JUDO 15th inter hall Debate Federation, EMK Center-JUDO 4th Freshers’ Debate Competition, Bot tola Show Debate, Teachers-Students Debate, and English League 3.0 `Break the Bias’ was another unique program hosted on the International Women Day to dispel the biasness centering gender dominance.
Farhan Anjum Karim, president of the organization said, Since the establishment of JUDO, it has been making relentless efforts to spread the practice of reasoning among all sections of society. JUDO is committed to establishing debaters with confident and sharpened values by organizing and participating in various debates. JUDO believes that it is possible to turn a country and society into a paradise for living by holding the hands of a rational, conscious, and vocal young generation.
Zillal Hossain Sourav, secretary of the organization said, JUDO is hosting the National Debate Festival-2022 as a part of its regular program. A number of teams are participating in the program School, college and university categories. We are hopeful that the event will further accelerate the goal of transforming debate into a social movement.
