BMDC suspends registration of Impulse Hospital’s MD

Momena Haque Mun was admitted in the city’s Impulse hospital on March11, 2020 for undergoing surgery of her left ear.
But Professor Dr. Ali Zahir Al-Amin, performed the operation in her right ear.
As a result of this grave wrong operation, the shape of the patient’s face becomes crooked.
Momena Haque’s husband Ziaur Rahman Bhuiya lodged a complaint with Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).
Following the complaint BMDC sought explanation from Prof. Zahir, accordingly he submitted a detailed written explanation to the BMDC on October 31st. But the BMDC found the explanation un satisfactory and finally suspended his registration.
The BMDC issued a letter to Dr. Zahir Al-Amin suspending his registration for one year period alleging his negligence and carelessness in providing treatment to the patients.
Prof. Dr. Ali Zahir Al-Amin (BMDC Reg. No. A-12688), is also the Managing Director of Impulse Medical Services and Research Center Ltd., Tejgaon in the capital.
Sources said, the BMDC has issued a suspension letter to Prof Zahir on November 16, signed by the Deputy Registrar of BMDC, Dr. Md. Liaqat Hossain.
The letter mentioned that Dr. Zahir Al Amin has performed a wrong operation of his admitted patient Mrs. Momena Haque Mun, 38.
Instead of operating the ailing left ear, the operation was performed in right ear that caused huge suffering to the patient.
The letter further alleged of providing wrong information to the attendants and guardians the patients by the hospital staff.
BMDC also directed the physician not to render any sorts of treatment to any patient, even not to introduce himself anywhere as a Doctor.
