Work of Dhaka-Tangail Highway Four-Lane Project in full swing

The second phase construction work of Four-Lane Project from Elenga to Bangabandhu Bridge on Dhaka-Tangail Highway has started in full swing. At present, soil filling work for the road is going on. If the project is completed, people of 22 districts of the northern region will get relief from heavy traffics and life taking road accidents.
Abdul Monem Limited, a Bangladeshi contractor company has started the work to upgrade the 13.6 kilometer two-lane Highway from Elenga to Bangabandhu Bridge to four lanes with a view to making smooth communication and minimizing the travails of commuters.
Visiting on the ground Saturday, it is noticed that work has started on the south side of the highway. Presently, sand is being dumped round the clock for road construction as primary work. Though the one third portion of the total work has completed drivers and passengers demand a very quick end of the project.
From the concerned sources, it is known that in 1997 after the construction of Bangabandhu Bridge, vehicles from 23 districts, including 17 from North Bengal, started plying on the Dhaka-Tangail highway that greatly increases the pressure of vehicles on the highway. Due to the lack of expansion of the highway compared to different vehicles, traffic jams and accidents are the very common incident in this highway especially on Eid and others religious occasions the suffering increases manifold.
 Following this, the government undertook the project of upgrading the road to four lanes. Although the work could not be completed on schedule in September 2015, the entire highway work has now been completed. As a result, there is no suffering from Elenga to Chandra on the highway minimizing the ration of accidents noticeably.
