3 killed as bus, pickup collide in Habiganj

Three people were killed on Monday a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a pickup van in Nabiganj Upazila of Habiganj on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
Two others, including the pickup van’s driver, were seriously injured in the incident.
The accident occurred on Monday morning at Roknopur area in Paniumda Union, Nabiganj Upazila.
The deceased are: Mashhud Ahammad (40), son of Sufi Mia of Karkhana village in Dighalbak Union, Nabiganj Upazila, and a vegetable trader at Inatganj Bazar; Abul Kashem (50), son of Moyna Mia of South Inatganj village, also a vegetable trader; and Moyna Mia (30), an employee of Fahim Sabji Bhandar at Inatganj Bazar.
According to police and local sources, several vegetable traders and workers from Inatganj Bazar were traveling by pickup van this morning to bring produce from Digambar Bazar in Bahubal Upazila.
When they reached the Roknopur area, the pickup van collided head-on with a passenger bus of Lucky Paribahan coming from the opposite direction.
Mashhud Ahammad died on the spot. Locals rescued four seriously injured people, including the pickup van’s driver, and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
While undergoing treatment there, Abul Kashem and Moyna Mia died around noon.
Two others, including the pickup van’s driver, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital in serious condition.
Upon receiving news of the accident, Sherpur Highway Police Station personnel went to the scene, removed the two vehicles involved, and restored normal traffic flow on the highway.
The bus involved in the accident was later detained in the Aushkandi area. Both the bus and the pickup van have been taken into the custody of the highway police.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Jashim Uddin of Sherpur Highway Police Station confirmed the accident, saying that one person died on the spot in the head-on collision between the bus and the pickup van, and two more later died while undergoing treatment in Sylhet
