14 shops gutted in Sharankhola

As many as 14 shops were gutted when a devastating fire broke out in Rayenda Bazar, Upazila headquarters of Sharankhola in Bagerhat district in the early hours of Thursday, according to a report received here. The loss of fire is yet to bed ascertained. Fire affected shopkeepers and a source of the local (Sharankhola) Fire Service Station said that at the night at about 3 pm the fire originated from a grocery shop situated at Panch Rastar Mor (the meeting point of five roads) of Rayenda Bazar spread to the adjacent shops and went out of control within moments. On information all the fire service units of the local Fire Service Station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fight for more than one hour. But in spite of that as many as 14 shops (including grocery shops, stationary shops, drug stores etc.) with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes.

Daring burglary in 3 shops

Daring burglaries were committed in three different shops at Daibaggahati Bazar under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district at the night of Thursday, according to a report received here. The burglars looted goods and cash worth Taka more than 5 lakh.
 It is learnt from the affected shopkeepers that at the night the burglars entered into Bhai Bhai Stores, Tarun Studio and a restaurant cum hotel of the Bazar after breaking open their ventilators and looted a motor bike, various kind’s valuable goods and cash Taka. Abdul Quddus Dihidar, owner of Bhai Bhai Stores told, the miscreants entered into my shop after breaking open its ventilator and decamped with cash Tk.90 thousand and 15 mobile sets from the shop. In this connection he lodged a GD with Moprrelganj PS.

Awareness meet to support destitute women held

Keeping in front of the slogan ‘Help for self-reliance’, an awareness meeting on the support of disadvantaged and poor women of the society was held under the ‘Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) program’ organized by Kapasia Upazila Administration and Women Affairs Office of Gazipur on Tuesday. The information meeting was held under the chairmanship of Executive Officer AKM Golam Morshed Khan in the Upazila Parishad meeting room, it was informed that poor, widowed, divorced women are being provided 30 kg of rice per month for every 02 (two) years through the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) program.
