‘Police officers sent to retirement due to lack of skills & patriotism’

Staff Reporter :
The government has sent some police officers on compulsory retirement owing to their lack of skills and patriotism.
On the other hand, the government has no intention of obstructing “normal” political activities in the country.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said this while participating at a dialogue organised by Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Media Center of the Secretariat on Thursday.
After the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the government recently sent five police officers on compulsory retirement in the public interest.

When attention was drawn to this matter, the Home Minister said, “Sending (retirement) of police officers is a continuous process. Those officers completed 25 years, their skills are now deficient. If their patriotism is short, the government cannot sit idle. At this stage, the department concern has taken action against the forced retired police officers considering their short of skill and patriotism.”
Do you consider absence of patriotism in a man alarming or not, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal replied, “Why should we consider it alarming? Nothing is alarming to the government. If the government thinks that he or she lacks of skill and he or she inactive for the job. Why they would unnecessarily occupy a post? Another person can give more service with his skills in that position and that’s why they were sent to retirement.”
On October 18, Mirza Abdullahel Baki of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Md. Delwar Hossain Mia and Police Headquarters SP (TR) Muhammad Shahidullah Chowdhury were sent on retirement before the expiry of their tenure.
Last on October 31, the government sent two officers of the rank of Additional DIG of Police on compulsory retirement from service. Additional Deputy Inspector General of CID Alamgir and Additional Deputy Inspector General of Tourist Police Mahbub Hakeem were sent on forced retirement.
“The prime minister has said that any political party can carry out their political activities. We have no objection to that. But if they create public misery and block roads, then our law enforcement agencies will not sit idle. It is natural that they will do the responsibilities assigned to them. This is happening in every country. Bangladesh is no exception. If the political activities are carried out normally, the government has no intention of obstructing it,” the Home Minister said
“You have also seen that the leaders of one party are saying that you (followers) will come, bring the stick. If you tie the flag of the country while taking the stick, then no one will be able to say anything to you.
