IMF loan will help temporarily- Planning Minister

Staff Reporter :
Planning Minister MA Mannan said that the income of the people did not increase comparing with the inflation. But the root cause of rising inflation is not our market failure. Our market is now deeply connected with the global market. Other market pressures have also come to us here.
MA Mannan said that there might be some temporary relief in IMF loans.
He made this comment in response to the questions of the media workers after a meeting with the representatives of the International Labor Organization (ILO) at his office in the Ministry of Planning in Shere-e Bangla Nagar of the capital on Wednesday (November 2).
In response to another question from journalists, the Planning Minister said, “The International Labor Organization (ILO) has not asked to increase the wages of workers in all cases.” They only talked about increasing the wages of tea workers and coastal fishermen. We have recently increased the wages of tea workers. It will be increased in the coming days. I also think that we should look at increasing the wages of tea workers and coastal fishermen.
He said, “The government is not uncomfortable. Because, after having 100 taka in the pocket, if someone lends 10 taka, it will be somewhat better.
Regarding the high inflation in the country, the Minister of Planning said, ‘It is not like the amount of money in the pocket at the beginning of the month, it will not be the same at the end of the month. At the end of the month there may be shortage in the pocket. Everyone goes to the market, today one price, tomorrow it suddenly becomes another, but not like that.
The meeting was attended by ILO Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Specialist Gunjan Dalakoti, Principal Technical Adviser Igor Bose, National Project Coordinator Annie Dong and Program Officer Khadija Khandkar.
