Ministers’ role is to stop food adulteration, not saying only moral words
The Health Minister on Tuesday said food adulteration has increased alarmingly across the country, though as a member of the cabinet it is his role to stop this. It is not new knowledge that basic food items, including rice, pulses, spices, fish and vegetables have toxic chemicals and other harmful additives. As a result, ailments like cancer and kidney diseases have doubled across the country.
In developed countries, no compromises are made to poison food, no matter how powerful a company is. But adulterated food is being served everywhere in our country. So, where do people go? What will we eat? The minister said creating awareness among people is a must to stop food adulteration. Enforcement of a safe food policy and regular monitoring is the key to stopping the menace.
Though adulterated foods are dangerous for all, the impact of food adulteration falls most on children and aged people. Children are losing their disease-resistance power for adulterated foods. They are losing their mental ability along with the damage of kidneys, livers, and other organs. The impact of food adulteration will be grave for the next generation. Adulterated food and the use of chemicals in foodstuffs are destroying our future generations. The children will be less intelligent and will lack good memory. People will frequently have to go to hospitals. Their medical expenses will increase day by day which will have a serious impact on their socioeconomic conditions. So the entire nation is at a terrible risk due to food adulteration.
The minister said if we want to give a healthy life to the next generation, these adulterated businesses must be stopped now. The moral words containing should, ought to can be said by rights groups, not ministers. They are appointed ministers to protect people from all harm and the laws allow them huge power, however, profiteering business connections and client-patron relationships with the businesspeople bar them from taking any step. Saying some moral words is their only task.
