Favourites India posted a thrilling five-run win (according to the Duckworth/ Lewis Method ) over Bangladesh in a rain-interrupted crucial Group-2 match of the ‘Super Twelve’ phase of the ICC T20 World Cup (WC) at the Adelaide Oval in Australia on Wednesday.
Sent into bat first, India piled up a mammoth total of 184 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Chasing 185 runs to win in 20 overs, Bangladesh scored 66 for the loss of none in seven overs before it started to rain. Later, the rain stopped and Bangladesh had a revised target of 151 runs to win in 16 overs.
Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed together 68 runs in the opening stand before Litton was unfortunately run out by a direct throw of KL Rahul.
Litton Das hit a splendid 60. His 27-ball innings was ornamented with three sixes and seven fours.
Shanto scored 21 from 25 balls including one six and one four.
Later, Nurul Hasan and Taskin Ahmed fought back contributing together 37 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket partnership but their innings was finished as the stipulated 16 overs came to an end when Bangladesh was just six runs away from the victory target.
Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten with 25 runs. He hit two fours and a sixer in his 14-ball innings.
Taskin Ahmed remained unbeaten with 12 runs.
Pandya and Arshdeep bagged two wickets each for 28 and 38 runs respectively.
India had a shaky start as opener Rohit Sharma (2) was caught at the backward point by Yasir Ali off Hasan Mahmud when India’s score was 11.
After Sharma’s dismissal, opener KL Rahul and one-down Virat Kohli added together 67 runs for the second wicket partnership before Rahul was caught at the short fine leg by Mustafizur Rahman off Shakib Al Hasan when India’s total was 78 for the loss of two wickets.
Kohli remained unbeaten with 64 runs. His 44-ball innings was laced with eight fours and a sixer. Kohli was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Rahul hit a marvelous 50. His 32-ball knock was belted with four sixes and three fours.
Suryakumar hit a fine 30 from 16 deliveries featuring four fours.
Hasan Mahmud captured three wickets in the space of 47 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan claimed two wickets at the cost of 33 runs.
